Diversity in Nature - If you love nature, you will love the Lewis-Clark Valley and surrounding area, home to a diverse collection of rivers and small lakes; mountains, valleys and plains; forests, barren hillsides, and fertile farm land.
Located at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers, the two communities of Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington thrive due in part to the diverse natural resources and beauty that surround them. Named after explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, these two towns continue to embrace the spirit of exploration and adventure.
While close to all the conveniences of town, homes in Lewiston, Idaho allow you easy access to the area’s natural beauty. Whether it’s an early morning jog or an evening stroll you wish to enjoy, there are 12.3 miles of paved paths along the two rivers in Lewiston, with another 6.7 miles of paths on the Clarkston, Washington side. A drive or boat ride up either of these rivers will reveal both rocky and sandy beaches mixed with basalt cliffs. Despite the rocky, arid landscape of the valley walls, Lewiston is a green oasis and has repeatedly received the Arbor Day Foundation’s “Tree City USA” award for among other things, its tree planting and management.
A short drive north, up the Lewiston Hill, and you will see miles of rolling Palouse farm land. This fertile farmland is an ever-changing patchwork quilt of colors. As the seasons change the crops of wheat, peas, and lentils turn from shades of green to gold with an occasional bright burst of rape seed yellow.
From the top of the Lewiston Hill you can see the sprawling LC Valley with Craig Mountain to the southeast and the Blue Mountains to the southwest with the steep Hell’s Canyon gorge cutting its way between them. Atop these mountains are tamarack, ponderosa pine, white pine, and other conifers. A short drive from Lewiston, Idaho real estate can bring you into the cool woods of these and other mountains, with hiking trails, fields of wildflowers, deer, elk, and various birds. Travel by car or deeper still by jet boat up the Snake River into Hell’s Canyon – America’s deepest river gorge with steep canyon walls, white water rapids and grazing bighorn sheep.
From the spring array of dogwood and cherry blossoms to the gold of fall wheat, rocky hillsides or lush green forests, the Lewis-Clark Valley is bountiful in a diversity of beauty.
